Abstract

Education and philosophy are closely interconnected, as philosophy provides the foundational perspectives that shape the aims, curriculum, teaching methods, values, and social purposes of education. This study examines the relationship between education and philosophy from philosophical and educational perspectives, focusing on Idealism, Realism, Pragmatism, Existentialism, and Critical Educational Philosophy. The study is qualitative, theoretical, and analytical, based on secondary sources. It particularly draws on the educational ideas of John Dewey and Paulo Freire and contemporary perspectives on democratic education. The study argues that education is not merely the transmission of knowledge or preparation for employment but a transformative process that develops critical thinking, moral judgment, intellectual freedom, social responsibility, and democratic consciousness. The relevance of these philosophical perspectives is also reflected in the holistic, multidisciplinary, and value-oriented vision of NEP 2020 in India.

Keywords: Education, Philosophy, Educational Philosophy, Values, Critical Thinking, Democratic Education, Pragmatism, Humanistic Education.
