Abstract
This paper examines the profound economic and cultural impact of the Silk Road and maritime trade networks on Ancient India. It explores how India’s strategic geographical location positioned it as a central hub for the exchange of goods, ideas, religions, and technologies between East and West. By analyzing key trade routes, commodities, major ports, and the roles of influential dynasties, this study demonstrates the multifaceted nature of these interactions. The paper highlights how these trade networks not only fueled economic prosperity but also facilitated the widespread diffusion of Indian religions (Buddhism and Hinduism), artistic styles, philosophical concepts, and scientific advancements, leaving an indelible mark on civilizations across Asia, Africa, and Europe. Conversely, India also absorbed foreign influences, contributing to a rich cultural synthesis, illustrating a dynamic, reciprocal flow of influences that shaped the ancient world.
